How might we use social media to change the views and values of society to be more positive and beneficial to mental health?

Be4Real is a new photo-sharing app where you share your real life with your friends. Each day take a break from social media and be real. Without filters, followers & likes. Only your friends for real. Get out in the world and Be4Real.

Mission

Our mission is to reimagine social media through Be4Real by revolutionizing the way we interact with our phones and the real world.

Bereal capture

Bereal

BeReal is a new social media that is changing the way people have been posting what is going on in their life. BeReal will randomly send you a notification at a random time throughout the day and you have 2 minutes to take a picture of what you are doing at that moment. You can only view what other people have posted until you post something.

Capture

We wanted to implement a new feature to BeReal that will allow you to block social media during the day so you are able to do things other than death scrolling.

Capture will send you a notification throughout the day and let you know of cool new things to do in your area.

Block social media

Capture will block your top 5 social medias on your phone randomly throughout the day. If you try and get on them during the capture time your screen will look like these and it will send you to the BeReal app to take a capture instead. You will have to wait until capture time is over to be able to look at social media.

map

During capture time you will be suggested activities around your area that BeReal thinks you will be interested in based on your recent search histories and where you have been. The map feature will show you the places suggested by BeReal or popular capture spots in your area.

When you are at these locations you will be able to take pictures at the moment through the app but they will not be posted until after capture time is over.

Capture with friends

Once capture time is over your pictures will be posted to the capture feed. This is where you will be able to see what your friends were posting during their capture time as well as them being able to see what you were doing.

Suggestions

The last feature that capture will allow you to do is pair the app with other apps on your phone (such as the kindle app, the health app, and more). Pairing BeReal with these apps will allow the app to remind you to do things that will positively help you do things that you may have forgotten about. Such as reminding you to finish that book that you haven’t read in a while, or even go out for a walk.
